Cheryl Home Made Spaghetti Bolognese

Bought this super-valued San Remo promotional set of Pasta Sauce and Thin Spaghetti @ RM 11.90 recently and skeptical honey was not convinced I will be cooking for him anytime soon...

But I proved him wrong! :P

Yesterday afternoon I dished out Cheryl Home Made Spaghetti Bolognese (pork) as our lunch..
It has been quite sometime since I cooked (dated back to my Ozie days) so a bit rusted d but here goes...

Ingredients
San Remo Tomato, Onion and Garlic Pasta Sauce

San Remo Thin Spaghetti

Minced Pork (marinated)

Start cooking!
1. Stir-fry the minced pork while boiling water beside for the spaghetti

2. Add in the spaghetti paste and continue to let it cook til simmer

3. Put in the spaghetti and let it continue to boil til soft

4. Seep up the spaghetti and top it with the bolognese sauce

Tada! Simply . looks . Delicious.

Verdict ? Honey loved it and he said it's tasty!

Eventhough I made huge portions .... We finished everything! wahahhahahahahah... proves how YUMMY it was :D

Mission : SUCCESS!

Aroi Thai Restaurant @ Burmah Road

Had dinner with honey by trying out this new place yesterday and was greeted by an old Indian drunk right at the entrance of the restaurant :-S

Our drinks..

Fresh Sugar Cane (RM 3.50) (right)

Honey said this was just normal

Winter Melon
(RM 3.50) (left)

My winter melon tasted like something right off the packet drinks

We ordered...

Pandan Chicken
(RM 3 each x 2 = RM 6)

The waitress mentioned that their Small one contained 4 pieces and that people normally have one piece each only - so she made a note to do 2 for us only

But when they came honey said that this is just a normal sized pandan chicken and anyone could have finished more than 1 (-_-)"

The Pandan Chickens tasted very nice - very flavorful. The only downsides being oily and also the chicken portions used were rather fatty. Honey's piece consisted of 50% fat

Sweet Chilli Sauce and Sambal that we requested

Tomyam Soup - Seafood (S) (RM 18.90)

The tomyam soup here is pretty clear and not as thick as other Thai restaurants. It's pretty spicy though we felt that the tomyam aroma is lacking. Came across as a diluted version

Fried Kailan with Salted Fish (S) (RM 7.90)

This was the worst stir fried Kailan I ever had - the taste was on the sweet side (?), the Kailans were old, the salted fish came in huge chunks rather than fine pieces and it was just full of broadly chopped garlic

Deep Fried Pork Leg
(S) (RM 25)

I think this is perhaps one of the best pork legs we tasted thus far. The skins were very crispy and yet the meat tender and juicy. Most importantly, it did not come with overpowering pork smell. The portion was just right for the 2 of us and we enjoyed this the most

In all, our bill came up to RM 75.70 which was pretty pricey judging by the food quality and minor factor of inconvenience in location and parking.

And when I checked the bill, they actually charged us 5 Small rice (RM 0.60 each) and 1 Big rice (RM 1 each) when we only had 1 small and 1 big. How did that come about I do not know. After pointing out to them they apologized and returned us the difference (without returning us the 10% service charge) but I did not demand for the 20 cents variance of course.

Yet another place I wouldn't really consider coming back very soon :)

Suffolk House Restaurant @ Jln Air Itam

Celebrated both my dear PChoon and my own birthday together here @ Suffolk House. We initially planned to pig out at Hard Rock Cafe but it was fully booked due to a private function - so we settled for our next choice - and was utterly disappointed :(

Suffolk House is managed by Penang Heritage Trust and is neatly tucked away along Jalan Air Itam, by right - it boasts a rich cultural heritage factor and is the ideal venue for dine and wine while admiring this colonial establishment.

We were, however, disappointed with the lack of proper space usage and appropriate deco particularly at the entrance and broad walkway leading to the restaurant. And was even more disappointed to realize that this is not anywhere near fine-dining experience - patrons - mostly foreigners were chatting away loudly in the rather limited restaurant space while the restaurant seems to play elegant soft music louder and louder in an attempt to bring back the atmosphere, to no avail.

Not much words to describe the culinary experience here except - extraordinary.

Interior

We opt to have their set dinner which entails us choosing only the main course (which determines the price).

There were a total of 8 courses altogether in the set and here they are (note that I made up all the names as I did not capture all of them from the menu)

ONE Assortment of Bread

TWO (i forgot what this was)

THREE Guava Juice Soup with Scallop

FOUR Salad and Nut Platter

FIVE - Main Course

PChoon's Steak

The steak was very red (rare) but PChoon was ok with it but I definitely cannot accept it. The texture was not bad though nothing to shout about.

My Cod Fish

I thought the underlying bedding was comprised of mushrooms but I thought wrong - they tasted sweet and I don't know what on earth they were made of to-date. Just tasted awful to me.

SIX Cheese and Crackers Platter

SEVEN Dessert Platter

Comprised of ice cream, cakes, dark chocolate, jelly, mini waffle.

EIGHT Coffee or Tea

Both of us opted for coffee. According to Lye, they serve Blue Mountain coffee but I can't tell, though I have to admit that the aroma of the coffee was just simply marvelous when it reached our table.

Surroundings of Suffolk House @ night

The bill came up to a whopping RM 322 for 2 sets - out of this world for sure.

No more returns for dinner but will definitely try out their afternoon tea. And I'm glad I didn't bring honey here.

Bravo Italiana @ I-Avenue

Celebrated Jenn's birthday here and it was a fairly good choice.

Garlic Bread

1/2doz Baked Oyster (RM 28)

Perfectly done. Oysters tasted fresh even after being baked with the ingredients - this is the next best deal after fresh oysters

Lamb Shank Set Dinner (RM 42)

Meat was tender and tasted good

Soup of the day (comes with the set)

This was just mediocre

Dessert of the day (comes with the set)

If i remember correctly this is Lemon Cake. The cake was not up to the expectations either

Spaghetti Bolognese (RM 19.80)

Comment received was that the spaghetti had an overpowering herb aroma, which some people fancy while others do not

Spaghetti Meat Ball (RM 23)

This was my order and I can say this is the best Spaghetti Meat Ball I ever had... the spaghetti itself was nicely cooked - not overly hard nor soft; the meat balls - dubbed 'hand made' in the menu was tasty, did not fall apart easily and was simply humongous! Drooling just thinking about it

I didn't get a chance to ask about the feedback on the rest of the orders but here are the pics :)

Salmon Allagira Set Dinner (RM 39)

Salmon Rockefeller (RM 29.80)

Chicken Mediterranean Set Dinner (RM 36)

Banana Yogurt Smoothie (RM 10.90)

This was mine and it was rich and thick - just the way I like it!

Mango Yogurt Smoothie (RM 10.90)

Andrew liked his smoothie too and he felt that mango was better than banana
Tiramisu (RM 12.80)

Tiramisu was okay but nothing to shout about
